Stevia (Rebaudioside-M)
Stevia is a zero-calorie, all-natural sweetener. It is roughly 300 times sweeter than sugar and is the primary ingredient in the green-colored packets called “Stevia in the Raw” and “Truvia.”* These and other products blend a small amount of stevia with a large amount of either dextrose or erythritol.
Rebaudioside (“stevia”) is the extract from the stevia plant leaves that possesses sweetness properties.
There are several grades of stevia, which have evolved over the last two decades. By itself, stevia does not have the same taste as sugar. However, the newest form called Rebaudioside-M (“Reb-M) provides the closest taste and mouthfeel to sugar, without any calories.
Reb-M is generally only available to manufacturers at this time, but we are now making it available to consumers.
